Synod
Manhattan |
It
is with much appreciation to Cerdin and Doreen Jones for
allowing Glenhaven to purchase this Section C colt. Synod
Manhattan has the distinguished show record of being
Champion C and Overall Supreme Champion at the National Foal
Show held at the Bluith Wells show grounds, out of 254
entries. He then repeated the same results, Champion C and
Overall Supreme Champion at the Ceredigon Foal Show.
The interest in Section C's
is on the rise and inquiries regarding Manhattan have
already been received. The synod stud is renowned for its
quality and high standards often achieving the top prices
for animals at the sales in the United Kingdom. Thanks must
also go to Mr. Ifor Lloyd of the Derwen Stud for his
assistance in our newest acquisition.

Welsh Pony
and Cob Society Annual General Meeting 1999 |
The
Welsh Pony and Cob society held their Annual General Meeting
for 1999 at the Hilton Inn at New-port, Wales. It is
becoming increasingly difficult to find a venue large enough
to accommodate the growing number of members who attend each
year.
Financial Report: Mr.
Wilding Davaies reported that, due to a governmental mix-up,
the Society received a VAT (Valued Added Tax) refund of
25,000 which made the difference between a surplus and
deficit in the previous financial year. Some members
suggested that the funds be allocated to the centenary
celebrations and the promotion of the premium Stallions as
the stallions will no longer be supported by the Betting
Levy Board. The members were advised that the refund will be
needed to be used for "general purposes". There
has been a decline in registrations which left only three
options for the council to consider.
1. An increase in
subscriptions and registration fees.
2. Services to members be
cut.
3. To drive out inneficiency.
On this last point, which is
apparently wide spread, suggestions were made to impose
penalties for mistakes made by applicants on their
registration forms. It seems that 30% of registrations are
defective and correspondence and telephone calls to correct
matters not only prolongs the registration process, but adds
to the running expenses of the Society.
Recently, under the
direction of Anna Jenkins, a visitors center has been
created at the offices in Aberystwyth. Display cabinets have
been set up to exhibit books, magazines and photos. The
Chairman, Mr. Ifor Lloyd's report include the following
table regarding registrations and exports which i am always
interested in.

Futurity - U.K. |
The
Glenhaven Futurity, the first be established to Welsh ponies
and cobs in Britain, was in 1997 with the initial six studs. This
year sees four more studs join and a total of twenty-eight
animals are eligible to compete for prizes worth $3,000 .
The Futurity's popularity is assured as more and more owners
buy from the members and go on to show the animals in
performance or in hand classes. This can only help to
promote the Welsh and Provide an incentive to continue to
show the animals. |
